Michael received a bachelor degree in cell and molecular biology from the University of Essex, a master degree in cancer immunotherapy from the University of Nottingham and a PhD in Biochemistry from the Imperial College London.
Dr. Chen Chen (Michael) currently serves as Head of External Innovation China for Merck. He works in line with Merck R&D strategic needs to drive new opportunities for collaboration with academic and clinical research centers of excellence as well as early stage biotechnology companies based in Asian areas. Before joining Merck, he has been leading research projects at Spirogen Ltd./MedImmune UK, and involved in business development and investment activities at WuXi AppTec and ChemPartner.
He also encompasses scouting and evaluation of external opportunities for open innovation, assets in discovery and early clinical development (prior to clinical proof of concept), new drug targets, biomarkers, and discovery technologies, through licensing, co-development, investment and other collaboration opportunities.
